A seven-year-old boy who loves running is putting his best foot forward for Demelza Hospice Care for Children.

Oliver Gattase from Minster on Sheppey has signed up to do the 2.3-mile Vitality Little Half Marathon at Surrey Quays between Deptford and Greenwich today.

But instead of just running, the St George's Primary School pupil told his mum, Lisa, he wanted to raise money for a charity.

Oliver, who has two sisters, Sophie, 15, and Molly, 14, picked Demelza and was given a tour of the Bobbing-based hospice last month.

Lisa said: "He was blown away with what they have to offer.

"It’s such an amazing place when people are feeling sad. Demelza will put a smile on their face, I’m sure."

She added: "We as a family are so proud of him and he really wants to raise a lot of money for Demelza Hospice Care for Children."

Oliver's dad, Andrew, is planning to do the Vitality Big Half today as part of training for the London Marathon in April.
