Dozens of runners gave up their Sunday morning to raise cash for the Sheerness Lifeboat.

Although numbers were slightly down on previous years, the participants are expected to boost the charity’s coffers by hundreds of pounds.

The five-mile annual run started at the seafront near the family amusements, off Marine Parade and followed the beach up to The Leas, Minster and back.

There was also a shorter route where the halfway point was the Ship-on-Shore pub.

Sheerness Lifeboat coxswain Robin Castle started the event with other crew and supporters helping with timing and first aid cover.

Thousands of pounds have been raised for the RNLI over the years through the run.

A presentation ceremony took place afterwards at the boathouse at Sheerness Docks where participants each received a certificate and medal.

Sheerness Lifeboat operations manager Colin Washford said: “Once again it was a great success.

"Thanks to everybody who took part, including everybody who helped in the smooth running.

"Special thanks to Adam Wicketts, from Allwick Patterns, Faversham, for the superb trophies and to Peel Ports for their co-operation on the day.”
