Two Sheppey girls have been made members of this year’s Miss Invicta Kent Court and will represent the county on the carnival circuit.

Jess Bye and Poppy Clayton took part in the selection in Deal last month.

Poppy, who is 12 and goes to Fulston Manor School in Sittingbourne, was crowned Junior Miss Invicta.

Poppy Clayton and Jess Bye are both members of the Kent Invicta Court 2017

Meanwhile 18-year-old Jess, from Minster, who is studying dance at Canterbury College and was the 2016 Miss Invicta Kent, will fulfill the deputy Miss Invicta role this year.

The pair are firm friends and both are members of Helen K School of dance.

Poppy, a former junior princess on Sheppey carnival court, underwent a series of interviews with judges before claiming the crown.

She said: “There was a big party and I knew I was in the top three but didn’t realise I would end up taking the title and having two princesses by the end of the evening.

“I love being part of these events and I will be joining carnivals in Essex as well as Kent. I have a very exciting year ahead of me I think.”

The girls plan to do a 10-mile sponsored walk to raise money to help the court attend carnivals.
