Police have stepped up patrols in Sheerness after reports of a serious sexual assault.

A woman in her 20s was allegedly attacked in an alleyway near the town centre between midnight and 1am on Saturday.

A police spokesman said enquiries were ongoing and patrols in the area have been increased "to reassure the public."
