Mystery surrounds why an out-of-control model plane crash-landed in the middle of a busy housing estate.

The red and white Falcon Trainer, which had a witch on a broomstick and a Ghostbusters’ logo painted on its wings, appeared from out of the blue at 11.30am.

It clipped the roof of a house in Thistle Hill, Minster, skidded off the top of Liam Bedford’s red car and embedded itself in his front door.

Crash scene: As the plane landed

Mr Bedford, 22, said: “I was outside, closing the door and about to leave for a holiday, when I heard a big bang. I looked down and saw the wreckage of the plane embedded in the door frame. It had taken a huge chip of wood out of it.

“It came at such a speed that it could have knocked someone out if they had been hit by it.”

The impact of the crash left the 2m-long balsa wood craft from Seagull Models shattered and in pieces. Among the wreckage was a battery, a TV camera and the registration number N4734C.

A police spokesman said: "We were called at 11.54am to a report that a model aeroplane had collided with a house and a car in Minster.

"Details of the call have been recorded but as no criminal offences have been reported, no further action will be taken.

"The person who reported the incident has been advised to contact the Civil Aviation Authority, which provides guidance on the safe use of model aircraft and drones."
