Meet Magic, the most popular new member of a school.

The nine-week-old puppy was picked up last Thursday and taken to its new home at Minster primary.

Cockapoo Magic will spend her days roaming the grounds in Brecon Chase and the evenings and weekends with head teacher Debbie Wheeler.

The breed is a cross between a cocker spaniel and a poodle.

The pooch was given her name after the school held a competition for the children to come up with ideas. Each class put forward a list of names and Magic was the one which was drawn out.

Mrs Wheeler used to have a dog which would visit the school and the pupils would feed and walk her but she got too big to be able to roam freely, so they have opted for a smaller one.

“It’s about the children learning to nurture and care for animals,” she said.

“They didn’t know she was coming. They absolutely love her.”
