A woman is in hospital after she was hit by a car in Sheerness.

Police and ambulance staff were called to Marine Parad near the junction of Alma Road, at 2.40pm.

The road was closed to vehicles in both directions and traffic diverted through side streets.

Firefighters from the Sheppey station were also called and administered first aid until ambulance staff arrived.

The woman was taken to hospital, but her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The road was reopened at 5.20pm.
