Plans to close Halfway Road in Sheerness for roadworks have been called off by Southern Water.

The firm said it would need to shut Halfway Road, near the canal, for nearly three weeks from Monday, January 14.

A diversion route was planned to take drivers to the town by Queenborough Road and Brielle Way - a detour of around six miles.

The road was also closed in October 2017

But a spokesman for the utility company confirmed this afternoon letters would be sent to residents and businesses to say the works are no longer needed.

The route was closed off in October 2017 when engineers from Clancy Docwra examined the water main.
