Grandma Sandy Pellett is going to keep her mouth shut for four hours – to raise money for a family left homeless by a blaze.

The 58-year-old said: “It’s going to be tough because everyone knows I like to talk – but it is for a good cause.”

Her nephew, his partner and their two young children were left homeless when fire ripped through their terraced rented home in Beach Street, Sheerness, last Tuesday morning.

Sandy, of Invicta Road, Sheerness, said: “They were left with nothing but the clothes they were standing in. The house was gutted.”

The former barmaid has been rustling up support for the family and has already been promised a bed, two wardrobes, a dressing table and a sofa.

She added: “I am hoping to raise money for them this Friday by keeping silent from 11am to 3pm at the Ivy Club in Sheerness. The club has offered to give everyone who donates money a free shot.”

The family are now living with relatives.
