This is the unrecognisable group of Sheppey Rugby Club members who have spent a month growing moustaches for charity.

Fifteen of the lads from the club, which is based in Lower Road, Minster, took part in a world-wide event known as Movember.

The quest began on November 1, when the team were clean shaven, and carried on for the whole month.

After a month of staying well away from any form of razor - except for artistic purposes - there are some wild and wacky results, as well as £1,500 for charity.

Movember aims to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Charity and highlight men’s health issue.

Winner of the prize for craziest moustache goes to winger James Hammett for his free-style which, according to first team captain John Kelly, goes under his nose, across his top lip, around his cheeks in a squiggle and under his chin.

Good-sport James is out of action at the moment after breaking his leg last season – but was still keen to take part in the fund-raising.

Other styles favoured by the team include a classic handle-bar moustache and a sergeant major.

The team was sponsored for their efforts and also went round pubs in Minster with a collection bucket.

John added: “Quite a few of us have got quite reasonable moustaches, but some of the guys have only developed a bit of bum-fluff.

“It was good and we’ll take part again next year but I think most people will shave them off – they are not that popular with girlfriends and families.”
