A patient had to wait almost an hour-and-a-half to be seen by medics after falling in the street.

Paramedics were called to reports that a woman had collapsed in Minster Road, Halfway, near the junction with Queenborough Road and Halfway Road, at 10.20am yesterday.

It took crews one hour and 25 minutes to arrive.

Originally members of the public who stopped to help were told it might take up to two hours to send help. The call was later upgraded.

The patient was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital.

A South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesman said anyone with concerns about response times should contact the service.

Passers-by said the woman had been left shivering on the pavement.

KentOnline revealed last week that ambulance response times are below the national target for serious calls to the Isle of Sheppey.

And in September, a mum issued a desperate plea for more resources for the island after her son was left lying in the road in agony for hours after a motorbike accident.
