A LONG-SERVING head teacher at a Kent school collapsed and died at the weekend.

It is thought that 53-year-old Paul Trigwell, head of St George’s C of E aided middle school in Minster, Sheppey, suffered a stroke.

Mr Trigwell had been in charge of the school for 18 years, including supervising a move from Sheerness to new custom-built premises at Minster several years ago.

He leaves a widow, Fiona, a senior member of staff at Cheyne Middle School, Sheerness, grown-up sons Andrew and Matthew, and daughter Bethan, 18.

Staff at St George’s were informed of Mr Trigwell’s death on Sunday and a special assembly was held on Monday morning by chairman of governors, Canon Gilbert Spencer, vicar of Minster, when the pupils were told the news.

Members of Kent County Council’s education department have been providing counselling and psychological support at the school.
