Shane Byrne gets back in the saddle this weekend as the World Superbike Championship heads to San Marino.

The Sittingbourne rider currently lies 15th in the rider standings and his best finish of the season was a sixth place during the second round in Losail.

An 11th and 10th place finish last time out in America took the gloss of an improved weekend for Byrne, after he enjoyed his best qualifying of the season, and he’s hoping to keep building on that form.

"We got a good setting and it showed," said Byrne. "I told the team don’t touch a thing for Misano (San Marino) and lets try to build on this momentum we’ve found."

Team manager Marco Borciani said: "Our goal is to replicate what we’ve achieved in the US and possibly top that performance. But we really have to do well in practice in order to keep up with the top riders from the beginning.

"Unfortunately, Shane doesn’t know the track but he’s in great shape, both mentally and physically and is determined to do well."
