Three arrested after stolen plant machinery worth £100,000 recovered from Isle of Sheppey and Marden

Three people have been arrested after more than £100,000 of stolen plant machinery was recovered from two sites in Kent.

Police found the items on the Isle of Sheppey and in Marden, near Maidstone, after they were reported stolen from Wrotham between December and March.

A large trailer reported stolen from Lower Stoke, near Hoo, in July, was also recovered, as was a digger alleged to have been stolen from a site in London in December 2022.

Police have so far recovered three excavators, three trailers and numerous power tools.

As part of the investigation, a 34-year-old man from Coxheath was arrested on March 28 and a 40-year-old man from Gillingham was arrested on April 6.

They have since been released on bail until June 25 and 27 respectively.

A 35-year-old man from Gillingham was later arrested in connection with the investigation. He has also been bailed until 24 July.

Police Sgt Ross Haybourne, of Kent Police’s Rural Task Force, said: “We have recovered a significant number of plant machinery and believe there may be more stolen machines linked to this investigation.

“We would encourage anyone who believes they have information to get in touch with us as it may assist our investigation going forward.”
