A band is preparing for one of its biggest performances to date when they will be supporting indie giants Bloc Party.

Story Books, which has members from Sheppey and Sittingbourne, will be playing at Koko in London next Thursday.june21

The band is made up of Islanders Kristofer Harris (singer) and Robert Wilks (drummer), Joseph Whitnell (bass) and Thomas O’Leary (guitar), who are both from Sittingbourne, Andrew Parry (keyboard) from Maidstone; and Jack Tarrant (guitar) from Sidcup.

They describe themselves as “middle of the road, lightly disguised with weirdo singing and spidery drum beats”.

Story Books released their debut single All Those Arrows in February and the new track, Peregrine, has been chosen for the Radio 1 BBC Introducing Playlist.

After the Bloc Party gig, the band will be headlining at The Lexington in London on Monday, July 9.

Although they are playing shows in the capital Kristofer, who grew up in Queenborough, says his roots are still very much in Kent as he and Robert run Squarehead Studio in Newington.

Kristofer said: “We’ve not played many gigs yet so the Bloc Party show will be one of the biggest yet and will offer an entirely new experience for us all.

“Each of us are fans of Bloc Party, they are such an influential and important band.

“With their first record, they almost single handedly changed the course of guitar music so being asked to support them came as a big surprise.”
