Trains were at a standstill between Queenborough and Sheerness-on-Sea, after vandals damaged a rail.

The problem caused a power failure, meaning all lines were blocked between the stations at around 1.45pm.

A spokesman for Southeastern said: "Damage has been reported to the rail that supplies power to trains between Queenborough and Sheerness-on-Sea.

"Until the line can be checked by response staff, the line is blocked. Staff are expected to arrive at approximately 2.30pm.

"Train services running to and from these stations may be terminated at and started back from Queenborough."

A replacement bus service was put in place and normal service resumed by 3pm.
