A bullock had to be saved by firefighters after getting stuck in a ditch.

A crew from Sheppey and an animal rescue unit from Faversham were sent to Capel Hill Farm, Harty Ferry Road, Harty, at 8.51am today (Tuesday).

The 17-year-old, nicknamed Roastie, had gone for a drink, lost his footing, slipped and got stuck in the ditch.

Fortunately it was shallow, about 4ft of water, and crews were able to slide him out over the mud without causing any damage.

Farmer Keith Studd thanked firefighters for their efforts and said they did a good job.

It’s not the first time they have been called out to rescue the animal – he also got stuck two years ago.

“He’s more of a pet really – he was a bit of a runt so I didn’t send him to market,” Mr Studd said.

He was freed by 10.20am.
