Floral tributes have been left to a well-known Leysdown businessman after he shot himself.

Jon Brown, who was director of Coin Castle amusements, was found dead in the property in The Promenade.

An inquest into the 50-year-old's death heard he died of a "self-inflicted gunshot wound".

The hearing was opened on Thursday and adjourned until a later date.

Mr Brown was known for his work in the community. Last summer, he donated boxes of stationery to Eastchurch primary school children.

A number of people have since paid tribute to him, and Coin Castle amusements was closed at the weekend as a mark of respect.

"He was a really nice chap – friendly, convivial" - Peter Goodspeed

Former Mayor of Swale Pat Sandle said: "He was always so positive and smiling. He was a force in Leysdown and he took a keen interest in anything going on in the area."

Leysdown Chalet Services' Peter Goodspeed added: "He was a really nice chap – friendly, convivial. Our thoughts are with his family."

Police and ambulance services were called to his home just before midday last Monday.

A spokesman said: "We were called following a report of concern for a man.

"At this stage his death is not being treated as suspicious."

A full inquest date will be announced later.
