Unexploded bomb found off Sheerness coast

Bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion of a Second World War mortar found at Barton’s Point, Sheerness, on Wednesday.
The nine by two-inch device was found by the manager of Barton’s Point Coastal Park during a routine check.
It was discovered in water just off the coast in the morning.
Police put a small cordon in place at about 1.15pm and experts from the Ministry of Defence’s Explosive Ordnance Dsiposal (EOD) team were called to dispose of the device.
They carried out a controlled explosion at about 4pm.
