Picture-perfect postcards were revealed to the public as part of the Vision for Leysdown project.

Artist Rosa Ainley has put together the images after working with residents who took part in a photography workshop run by Ed Thompson and Nicole Mollett.

About 70 guests attended the launch event and exhibition on Thursday evening last week at the portable building on the village’s Spinney, off The Promenade.

After Swale mayor Cllr Adrian Crowther opened the event, people were invited to write comments on the cards, which Rosa will use to shape the designs she produces for the rejuvenation of the resort.

The Vision for Leysdown project is part of the government’s Sea Change programme, designed to reinvigorate coastal resorts through investment in culture and heritage.

The project has been going very well, with lots of people working with Rosa and using the Art at the Centre in weekly activities, ranging from workshops where people make their own “souvenir for Leysdown” from locally found materials, to photography walks.

Final results of the Vision for Leysdown project, which is almost at its halfway stage, will be available in October when plans for the area’s future will be revealed.

Rosa said: “Leysdown already has a great deal of history and culture and the vision that I am being helped to create here will build on this.”

Emma Wiggins, Swale Borough Council’s head of economic development and cultural services, said: “Her experience will help us deliver a creative and imaginative area for the community.

“We hope that residents of all ages will continue to get involved in the project.”
