They say if you remember the 1960s you weren’t there. But if you can tell your Tom Jones from your Lulu you are on the right track for this year’s fifth Fun For Life Sheppey Sunset Summer Stroll.

Booking opens on Saturday, May 20, with a Stars of the Sixties treasure hunt in Sheerness. Artist Richard Jeferies has produced 20 pictures of 60s icons which will be hidden in shop windows in the High Street and Broadway.

Organiser Lee Ewart said: “The names of everyone who finds all 20 will be put in a hat and the winners will be drawn live on Sheppey FM’s Helping Hands show on Wednesday May 24 by town centre chaplain the Rev Jeanette McLaren.”

Entry forms will be available from the committee stall by the clock tower.

Mr Ewart said: “As this year is the 50th anniversary of the so-called Summer of Love we have adopted a 60s theme for the stroll. Fancy dress is encouraged but is by no means compulsory. We want people to enjoy the night and feel comfortable.”

Last year the stroll attracted almost 140 walkers and raised just over £7,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Mr Ewart promised: “It would be amazing if we could reach £8,000 this year. If we do,
I’ll shave all the hair on my head off!”

He will be dressed like Sergeant Pepper and other committee members will be dressed in 60s costumes.

After the treasure hunt, Mr Jeferies’ pictures will be auctioned on eBay.

Shoppers will be able to pose to help recreate the album cover of the Beatles’ Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

The fifth five-mile Sunset Seaside Stroll is on Saturday, August 12. Walkers leave The Leas,
Minster, at 8pm and stroll along the seafront through Sheerness to the Old House at Home pub at Queenborough at sunset.
