The area could be in for some snow next week.

This is according to amateur weatherman Darren Prescott who has accurately predicted the white stuff’s arrival in recent years.

The 35-year-old measures the elements from a shed at his home in Bay View, Sheppey, and says there is a cold outlook for the coming days.

Darren, who works at Westlands School, Sittingbourne, said: “The million dollar question, will we get snow, is much harder to answer than normal.

“The reason is that the models are showing a very marginal situation for Saturday and beyond, with the forecasts changing between rain, sleet and snow every few hours.

“There’s no really cold air aloft this time around, with temperatures 5,000ft up being around minus 5C rather than the minus 10C which guarantees that anything falling will be snow.

“At the moment, I suspect we’ll see some sleet on Saturday and there’s a decent chance of some more sleet and possibly snow in the middle of next week - but that’s about as specific as it gets at the moment.”

He added: “Incidentally, we’ve already had four air frosts in Leysdown so far this winter, compared to the whole of last winter, when we had just two.

"The minimum temperature so far has been minus 3.4C on New Year’s Eve, compared to an overall low of just minus 2C last winter.”
