The winners of the Sheerness Together at Christmas competition have received their prizes.

The Swale council-run event, which was supported by the Times Guardian, encouraged residents and businesses to decorate their front windows.

Collecting the first prize for the residential winners were Shannon and Tyler-Gillespie Mitchell of Ranalegh Road. Three runners-up were householders from James Street, Marine Parade and Alma Road.

They were chosen as the winners after ward councillors toured the area and inspected pre-registered homes.

They won, respectively, a Nintendo DS package worth about £120; £50 healthy lifestyle voucher for the Sheppey Leisure Complex; £30 meat voucher and £20 fruit and vegetable vouchers from local traders.

The winners, who were announced at Saturday’s annual lantern parade in the town centre, were given vouchers for their prizes by Swale mayor Cllr Adrian Crowther.

In the business category, florists Daisy Chains was voted the best shop by readers who had filled out a voting forms in the Times Guardian.

They won a Christmas party/dinner at the Royal Hotel with £200 contributed toward the costs.

A form filled in by Brian Gearey, of Unity Street, was picked out of the hat and won him a Tesco Christmas goody hamper.

As well as Daisy Chains, Black Cat, Red Cross, Demelza, Pearl Tattoo, Oxfam, Clothing Exchange, Megadales, Precious Pets, Surprise and Sheppey Glass also received votes as well.

Community cohesion worker Kelly Walker said: “It was another successful Sheerness Together event. I would like to say a big thank you to those that made the effort to register and join in the fun and hope that everyone enjoys their prizes.”
