A Kent company has been ranked as the third fastest growing firm in the UK in a new league table.
Beauty products retailer Revolution Beauty, which is manufactured at Medichem in Rushenden, on the Isle of Sheppey, has been named in the 20th anniversary edition of the Sunday Times BDO Profit Track 100 league table.
The table ranks Britain’s private companies with the fastest-growing profits.
The business, which launched in 2014 and now has 165 members of staff in Kent, London and Chicago, saw profits grow by an average of 137% a year to £11.5 million in 2017.
Its celebrity fans include US TV star Khloe Kardashian – who praised one of its £3 highlighters.
Founder and joint CEO, Tom Allsworth, who is a born and bred Islander, said: “Adam Minto and I may have founded the business but the Revolution team have been behind this tremendous success.
“We are very proud of both the success and the team we have created. It’s been five years since we had our dream of launching a global brand. It proves hard work and perseverance pay off.”
The 53-year-old said the business started as online only but the products proved so successful that within six months they had been picked up by Superdrug.
“In some weeks, we sell more of our products in Superdrug than Rimmel and Maybelline, the biggest make-up brands in the UK,” Mr Allsworth said.
“We’re really excited and proud to have made the league table,” he added. “It’s recognition of the work the people on Sheppey have done.”
Mr Allsworth said more than 90% of the people who work for Medichem, which has been on Sheppey for over 25 years, are from the Island.
He added: “Revolution was born out of Medichem. We had the stability of Medichem to give it the platform to launch.”
As well as Revolution Beauty products, Medichem also manufactures hair and skin care products for all sorts of people including Kate Middleton’s hair stylist Richard Ward.
This is the second time Revolution Beauty has featured in a Fast Track league table, which has been running with The Sunday Times for 22 years.
In November, it was ranked the third fastest-growing firm in the UK in terms of sales.
In 2018, the group for Medichem and Revolution Beauty turned over £113m.
Revolution Beauty sells its cosmetics, all of which are certified cruelty-free, at affordable prices - lipstick starts at £1.
