Sickened residents have condemned an arsonist whose actions destroyed a car used by a mum to transport her disabled son.
In the early hours of Thursday morning, two cars were set on fire within minutes of each other in the same area.
A silver Audi TT coupe was set alight at 3.05am in Cecil Avenue in Sheerness, and at 3.10am, a blue Fiat Doblo, which had been specially modified with lifting equipment for a wheelchair, was set alight in Medway Road.
The engine compartment of the Audi was wrecked and the interior was also damaged.
The Fiat, which belonged to Kerry Brown, 28, and was used to drive her seven-year-old son Ethan Lambeth around, was completely destroyed.
Ethan, who goes to West Minster Primary School, has spinal muscular atrophy, which means he can’t walk and relies on his wheelchair to get around.
Miss Brown said as soon as she heard the fire engines arrive on Thursday morning, she knew it would be her car.
She said: “I looked out of the window and saw all the smoke – I feel gutted and angry.
“You can’t not see that it’s a disabled car and I don’t know why someone would do that.
“What pleasure do you get from setting alight a car? It’s very sad.”
Miss Brown said when she told Ethan what had happened on Friday morning, he burst into tears.
Ian Davidson, who lives a few doors away from where the Audi was set on fire, said he was woken up by the flames, which he thought was a flickering street lamp at first.
Mr Davidson said: “We had a spate down here a few years ago. It’s disgusting, stupid and dangerous."
