Appeal after attack on dog walker

POLICE are appealing for information after an incident in which a man walking his dog was hit in the face by a thug.

The 38-year-old victim was in Queenborough Road, Minster, near Sheerness, when he heard a vehicle approaching at speed.

Police spokeswoman Sally Smith said: "He thought the car was travelling from the direction of the Halfway traffic lights.

"The victim, who was around 20 metres from Southdown Road, was then struck in the face. This made him fall to his knee and his glasses fell off. It transpired he was struck by a bag of chips."

The man suffered bruising to his face in the incident and £100 worth of damage was caused to his glasses.

PC Andy Bell said: “This action may have seemed like a few seconds of fun to the offenders. However, we are treating it as an assault and are keen to hear from anyone who knows who was involved. We are now studying CCTV and enquiries are ongoing.”

The incident happened at around 7.45pm on Tuesday, 28 February.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sittingbourne police station on 01795 419178 or Kent CrimeStoppers on 0800 555111.
