A pregnant woman has spoken of the terrifying moment she feared she would lose her unborn baby after she was knocked over by a hit-and-run driver.
Cherise Bowerman, 20, was making her way home after spending the day with a friend in Sheerness when she was hit by a car at Queenborough Corner.
She was using a pedestrian crossing at about 5.15pm on Monday to cross over the Queenborough Road, opposite the BP garage, when a car travelling towards Halfway from Cowstead Corner collided with her.
Cherise has been left with bruising and swelling to her right knee, lower leg, and left wrist.
She has had an appointment and heard the baby's heart beat since the accident and said it looks as though everything will be OK with her baby, which she knows is going to be a girl.
The former Minster College pupil said: "It is all a bit shady - I was crossing the road and then all I can remember is getting smacked by a car and I was on my hands and knees.
"It knocked me to the ground and I landed half on the [traffic] island.
"I tried to get up and felt a sharp pain in my leg and a sharp pain in my stomach.
"I lifted up my t-shirt and there was a red mark which was so severe on my stomach and all I could think was 'oh my God my baby'.
"I thought I was going to lose my baby."
Hear Cherise speak about the what happened
Cherise, who is staying with her mum in Belgrave Road, Halfway, said she managed to get herself up and as she did, a woman had to move her car as a police car came past.
She added: "The woman looked right at me and I know she saw me because she looked right in my eyes and I was about to ask her for help and she just drove off."
Once she had managed to get back on her feet, Cherise managed to get over to the garage, where a woman phoned her dad and 999.
The police have launched an appeal for witnesses.
The car involved is thought to be a bright red new Ford Focus.
Cherise, who is expecting her first child, added: "I'm achey and it hurts but my injuries are just cuts and bruises really.
"It's just the thought of it - the thought of losing my baby and someone just driving off and people watching it and not doing anything.
Cherise would like to thank the woman who helped her in the petrol station, whose name she didn't get.
Detective Chief Inspector Nick Gossett said: "This incident occurred in rush hour and therefore we are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this collision.
"In particular we would like to speak to the female driver of a silver Volvo saloon who is thought to have stopped at the traffic lights during this collision and may be able to help further.
