A young woman has claimed she was the victim of a serious sexual assault on the beach in Sheerness today.

Police are investigating allegations of an attack on the woman, in her 20s, in the early hours.

Officers were called to the scene, near Bridge Road, at shortly after 3am.

Kent Police said the area was sealed off while an investigation was carried out.

A spokesman said inquiries are ongoing.

An area of the beach near Tesco supermarket was spotted cordoned off this morning.
