A mother and her baby son are lucky to be alive after a car ploughed into their home, her husband has said.
Michael Jacobs received a call from his wife Natalie Jacobs at around 8am telling him a BMW had smashed into their terrace house while she and their seven-month-old baby Samuel were in the front room.
Police were called to the crash in The Broadway, Minster, on Sheppey, this morning where the force of the collision smashed the couple’s windows.
Mrs Jacobs, 33, had just sent the couple’s nine-year-old Poppy to school when a car careered into the property.
Michael, 39, said: “The first thing I knew was when I got a phone call from my wife.
“It’s a miracle no one was seriously injured or killed, although there was glass from the smashed window everywhere.”
The force of the impact sent bricks from the couple’s demolished front wall through Mrs Jacobs’ Ford B-Max car which was parked in the driveway beside the house.
Mr Jacobs added: “We don’t know exactly what happened. The police have all the details. Apparently, the driver of the car is okay.
“Many drivers go far too fast along this stretch of road. There should be speed cameras along here to get them to slow down.”
His father-in-law Howard Walker, 60, agreed. He said: “My wife’s car was parked outside the house three weeks ago and a drunk driver ploughed into it. I agree there should be speed cameras here.”
The BMW had been travelling towards Sheerness. An iron railing was catapulted through one of the windows and the front door was left hanging off its hinges.
One person, who did not want to be named, said: “The noise of the crash woke me up. I am terrified at the speed of the cars which tear down this road. Some use it as a race track.”
The house is opposite, The Maples, is home to many elderly residents.
A police spokesman said: “Officers were called at 7.55am on Monday, March 11, to a report a car had collided with a building in The Broadway at Minster-on-Sea.
“Officers attended the scene where the driver reported having minor injuries. The vehicle was recovered and an investigation is underway into the incident.”
