A young mum is appealing for help from the public to catch thugs who threw a firework at her and her baby at Sheerness train station.
Jenny Magri was walking along the platform with seven-month-old son Noah when a rocket exploded by his pram.
Luckily, the 21-year-old swayed out of the way a split second before it blew up but, in the
panic to dodge the firework, the wheels of the pram ended up teetering over the edge of the platform.
Still reeling from the incident, the Queenborough Road resident said: “It’s disgusting. Anyone who throws a firework at someone pushing a pram must have something really wrong with them.
“I want these people caught and I want them to face justice.”
Jenny was travelling to see friends in Queenborough at about 8.45am last Thursday when the incident happened.
She was about to board a train which had already pulled into the station when she heard a screeching sound.
“I saw the firework out of the corner of my eye and I instinctively grabbed the pram,” she said.
“It blew up right next to us with a terrible bang and all these coloured sparks came flying out.
“Noah was crying and screaming; he was absolutely terrified.
“The firework took about 10 or 15 seconds to go out and then I picked Noah up to check he was OK.”
He was unhurt in the blast but remained traumatised for days afterwards.
A member of the rail staff helped Jenny, who also has a three-year-old daughter, Amelia, onto the train to continue her journey.
She believes the firework was thrown from the station’s entrance hall by two young boys who were seen by fellow passengers.
British Transport Police are examining the station’s CCTV footage.
Jenny, who works as a support worker for Blossoms, a home care association, said: “Had I not moved the pram in time, that firework could have potentially killed my son.
“If anybody saw anything at all, or can give a description of the clothes these people were wearing, I would be extremely grateful.”
