A249 Sheppey Crossing to close for National Highways repair works

A busy route that’s been dogged by delays in recent weeks is closing for emergency repair works.

The A249 Sheppey Crossing will be fully closed this weekend so a bridge joint can be fixed.

From 8am until 8pm on Saturday, November 11, motorists will only be able to get on and off the Island via the Kingsferry Bridge.

A National Highways spokesman said: “We’re doing this work during the day to make sure the air temperature is high enough to allow the materials we’re using to cure.

“We’ll get the road open as soon as the work is complete, which will be by 8pm at the latest.”

Drivers have already been facing lengthy delays getting off the Island, with one lane of the Sheppey Crossing coned off between Cowstead Corner and the Grovehurst roundabout.
