Today turned out to be a busy day for Island firefighters.
At 8.40am this morning a crew from Sheppey were called to reports of a fire in a garden in James Street, Sheerness.
When they arrived it was the remnants of a bonfire. At 8.55am crews were called to the old hospital site in Minster, where there was about five tonnes of building site waste alight.
The fire was put out for environmental reasons and it took about 30 minutes. Then the crew was called to reports of a car alight in Noreen Avenue, Minster.
When they arrived at about 2pm, the brakes of a car had overheated, causing
minimal damage.
Firefighters were then called to another car alight in Old Ferry Road, Harty.
A Ford Escort was completely destroyed after an electrical fault in the radio in a fire which happened at about 2.30pm.
Finally crews had to put out a fire in a kitchen at a mid-terraced house in Jefferson Road, Sheerness.
They rescued four rottweilers and two kittens from the property.
There was heat and smoke damage to the kitchen and smoke had travelled through the rest of the property.
