The Forum shopping centre car park is set to become a movie haven for film fans this weekend.
The outside space at the Sittingbourne site will be transformed with deckchairs, a huge cinema screen, licensed bar, food trucks and popcorn.
The Spirit of Sittingbourne has teamed up with The Light Cinema to put on a 30-year anniversary showing of the 1986 blockbuster Top Gun – and give “a taste of what is to come” with the long-awaited £57million town centre regeneration.
The open-air cinema will be held in the Friday market area, at the back of The Forum car park – where the new eight-screen Light Cinema will be built.
It is due to open in summer 2019.
Restaurants, including Pizza Express and Wildwood, are also scheduled to open on this site, alongside a 63-bedroom Travelodge.
Top Gun – with a 12A certificate and led by Tom Cruise – will be shown on the big screen on Friday.
Entrance will be from 7pm and the movie will start at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £5 per person, which covers the hire of a deckchair and headphones for the screening. Free popcorn and a soft drink will be provided by The Light Cinema.
About 100-150 tickets are up for grabs, and children under 12 go free.
Cinema goers are also invited to attend in fancy dress – with a prize given to the person wearing the best outfit.
