A PENSIONER escaped serious injury after a stolen car smashed into his car, which then ploughed straight through his living room window.

Hungarian-born Joe Toth, 68, who was eating his dinner at the time, flew off his sofa and ended up on the floor by the fireplace.

The stolen Ford Mondeo was being chased by a relative of the owner on a motorbike through Sheerness at speeds of up to 100mph.

The car clipped seven cars in New Road before hurtling across the junction with Queens Way and crashing into Mr Toth's Citreon, which was parked opposite on his drive.

He said: "It all happened so fast.The cars started smoking and the young man inside was petrified because he thought he was going to be lynched by the angry motorcyclist and others who had gathered at the scene.

"I let him into my house before the police arrived to take him away."

Mr Toth's home had to be propped up to stop it collapsing.Next door neighbour Carol Wraight was sitting in her Ford Escort on the road outside when the drama happened.

She said: "The stolen car clipped the front of my car before crashing into the back of Joe's car. I was just about to get out to load the boot with food for a quiz.

"The stolen car had a flat tyre and I feel very lucky to be alive."

The car had been stolen from outside Bill's Hairdressers in Sheerness High Street. The keys had been left in the boot while the owner was unloading supplies. The incident happened at 6.30pm on Friday.
