Police have ruled out a link between an early morning car arson and a serial firebug who has torched more than 20 vehicles.

A Kia Sedona was badly damaged following the attack at 3.30am today in St George's Avenue.

A blaze, which was started under the vehicle's engine, was put out by a crew from nearby Sheppey fire station.

It is believed more than £1,500 damage was done to the car.

A police spokesman said they are not connecting the incident with 25 other arsons in a small area of Sheerness in 2008/9.

The arsonist, who caused more than £60,000 of damage, has never been traced.
