Charging stations for mobility scooters are among new features at a housing complex for elderly people after a £2.5 million refit.
St George’s Court, St George’s Avenue, Sheerness, welcomed residents last week after the original building was deemed no longer fit for purpose last year.
The AmicusHorizon housing scheme, which has been partly funded by the Homes and Communities Agency, is providing 28 high-specification homes.
They include 23 one-bedroom and two, two-bedroom dwellings. The other three apartments have been specially adapted for wheelchair use.
The scheme is a part refurbishment and part new-build and has also seen external improvements made to the look of the building.
The original homes were too small and did not meet Lifetime Homes requirements, a set of criteria which aims to make homes more adaptable for lifetime use at minimal cost.
Neill Tickle, AmicusHorizon’s regional development director, said: “We’ve worked with our contractor, Cablesheer, to bring the homes up to a high standard and created modern, well-proportioned homes that are accessible for older residents.
“We’ve also built extensions at the end of the four blocks to create additional space.
“As part of the redevelopment we’ve installed charging stations for mobility scooters.”
