Chance for a share of charity pot

The Rotary Club of Minster-on-Sea has once again teamed up with the Sheerness Times Guardian to give away thousands of pounds to good causes on Sheppey.

This year there is £3,000 on offer through the Island Community Chest and groups, charities, clubs and organisations have been invited by members to bid for a share of the money.

All of the money was raised by the Rotary Club last year at events, including a darts marathon and its third annual beer festival which took place at The Aviator Pub, in Queenborough, in August.

Any charitable organisations are welcome to apply for a grant through the community chest and the club has requested that it is to be for specific things they need, such as equipment or trips, rather than general running costs.

Once all the applications have been received, a panel of Rotarians will look through and decide which groups will benefit.

Applications for a grant can be made to the Rotary via the Times Guardian by the deadline of Friday, February 25.

In 2009, the club also joined forces with the STG to give away £3,000 to 32 good-causes.

Past president and organiser of the community chest, Mike Brown, said: “We want to support local organisations like we did two years ago.

“The Rotary Club is always looking for ways to help the community and we will be running our fundraising beer festival and darts marathon this year too.

“We would like to thank the Island people for all the support they have given us in the past.”
