Kind-hearted school children have put together Christmas hampers to give to deserving members of the community.

As part of an enterprise afternoon at the Isle of Sheppey Academy on Friday, students from across both sites created their festive treats.

Around 85 hampers were put together with goodies, including chocolate, biscuits and cuddly toys.

The children had sourced all the gifts themselves and spent Friday assembling them and making Christmas cards before deciding who they would donate them to.

Most of the hampers will be given to Sheppey’s Crisis at Christmas appeal.

The event was a continuation of the school’s Pay It Forward scheme, where the children carry out favours for people on the understanding they will do something kind for someone else.

It was designed to help improve their team work and communication skills.

On Saturday, Year 9 academy students held a Christmas fair as part of their GCSE enterprise qualification.

It took place at the east site, Minster Road, Minster, and there was a Santa’s grotto and a range of stalls.

The pupils were assessed for their practical exam.

The Harmony Therapy Trust will benefit from 25% of the proceeds from the day, which are still being added up.

Academy director of specialism Caron Kerr said: “The support from the community has just been overwhelming.

“We couldn’t believe the generosity.”

• We hadbeen due to announce in this week’s paper academy students who had been chosen to take part in the school’s Apprentice competition. Unfortunately it has had to be postponed until the new year. Organiser Caron Kerr said it had been too busy at the school and they were inundated with almost 250 entries. They would be looking at it again in January.
