Bargain hunters flocked to the Island's Woolworths store as closure sales start at all outlets across the country.
By 9am today around 150 people had lined up outside the store in High Street, Sheerness, after the news yesterday that the store along with hundreds of others look set to close.
Woolworth's adminisrator Deloitte has said that some shops could close by the end of the year.
The company went into administration at the end of last month.
It had been due to celebrate its 100th birthday next year.
Jim Stack, 60, from Sheerness was in the queue today and described the news as "very sad".
He said: "It is a very sad occasion. It has been going for 99 years and it would have been good to see 100 but in the current climate it's not altogether surprising."
