A father-of-four slammed himself into a salon window and broke its glass during the early hours of the morning.
Arron Buckingham was so high on cocaine he couldn’t remember the incident at the Hair Studio in Broadway, Sheerness.
The 36-year-old not only caused £500 of damage in the process, he later got behind the wheel of his silver BMW and drove around Sheppey without insurance while still under the influence of the drugs.
He later gave a reading which was “off the scale” as well as failing to stop for police as they tried to catch him.
The incident at the hairdressers was caught on a high street CCTV camera and the police were called as Buckingham could be seen getting into the BMW and driving off along Sheerness High Street.
When police arrived at his home in Harris Road, Sheerness, Buckingham was causing a disturbance at the back of his property, which had also prompted a 999 call.
Officers tried to approach him but he got back in his car.
As one opened his door, he sped off along Granville Road and disappeared but, a short time later, returned to the address and was arrested.
Magistrates heard Buckingham was in such a state because of the drugs, he had to be taken to hospital and blood samples were taken.
This month, Buckingham, pleaded guilty to criminal damage, failing to stop, driving without insurance and two counts of drug driving.
Medway Magistrates’ Court heard Buckingham gave a reading of 18 micrograms of cocaine, per litre of blood – the legal limit is 10.
He also had 1,152 micrograms of benzoylecgonine (a cocaine byproduct), per litre of blood. The legal limit is 50.
Debbie Jones, prosecuting, said the incidents happened on February 13.
She said Buckingham, an HGV driver who delivers Tarmac, told officers he couldn’t remember a lot about what had happened and that his last conviction was in 2008.
James Langridge, defending, said: “He had been socialising with people he shouldn’t have, he recognises that now. His remorse is genuine. He is likely to lose his employment.”
The bench was told the manager of the salon had to get the glass replaced the day it was smashed, which caused considerable disruption.
Magistrates told Buckingham his reading for benzoylecgonine was “off the scale”, but they accepted his actions that day had been a one-off.
They placed him on a 12-month community order which will see him complete 100 hours of unpaid work.
He was also banned from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay the Hair Studio £500 in compensation.
