Motorists who endure daily queues of traffic on the A249 will soon be able to find out what the congestion-busting solution will be.
A series of consultation events will take place this week for an upgraded Stockbury Roundabout – costing £100 million.
Junction improvements are expected to boost capacity and ease tailbacks.
Highways England says the consultation will run from Wednesday, September 6 to Tuesday, October 17. The closing time for responses will be 11.59pm on the last day.
People will be asked for feedback on the proposals, which the agency says aim to reduce congestion, improve journey times and boost local economic growth.
About 126,000 letters have been sent to homes on Sheppey and in Sittingbourne, Medway, Maidstone and Aylesford, urging residents to get involved.
Another 150 have been sent to councillors and more than 230 emails to other stakeholders.
“We would like to hear your views on our proposals to help shape the future direction of the scheme,” they read.
“Meet our team and learn more about the proposals at one of our events. Brochures about the scheme and questionnaires will be available for you to complete or to take away.”
A preferred option is set to be revealed this winter, and construction is due to start in 2019.
Sittingbourne and Sheppey MP Gordon Henderson believes a flyover similar to the one at the Bridgewood roundabout – connecting Blue Bell Hill, Walderslade and Maidstone to the M2 – would be one possible solution.
Highways England has already carried out traffic surveys, and is making plans for the changes.
It said all inquiries about the plans would be answered fully when the consultation has begun.
It added that it would not confirm how much the entire consultation has cost until it was over.
Residents can view the plans and speak to representatives from Highways England at five public consultation events, which will be held on:
