Sheppey Gateway in Sheerness High Street closed due to power cut

Council offices were forced to close this morning due to a power cut.

Engineers worked to restore the power to Sheppey Gateway, in Sheerness High Street, at about 9am.

The Sheerness Times Guardian office was also out, but power came back on at 10.30am.

Shortly beforehand, a UK Power Networks spokesman said: "Engineers are working as quickly as possible to restore power to two customers in Sheerness High Street following a fault on the underground electricity network.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Kent County Council tweeted to let customers know about the closure of the Sheppey Gateway and its facilities, which included the library.

However, the authority later said the centre would re-open at 1pm with limited services.

"All Swale council inquiries will be available through the website and telephone," it added. "No staff will be based there to handle inquiries or Meet and Greet services."
