The Sheppey Crossing was closed for more than two hours this morning after eight cars were in two crashes.
A coach and a Vauxhall Corsa were involved in the first accident, which happened on the Sittingbourne-bound carriageway of the A249 at about 7am.
The other accident happened shortly after in the traffic behind the first one.
There were no serious injuries.
Police closed the road from the new Cowstead Corner roundabout.
Sheppey firefighters were also called to the scene after reports the Corsa was on fire, but it was out by the time they got there.
Traffic was queued back to Queenborough Corner and had knock-on effects across the whole Island.
The road was cleared and re-opened by about 9.15am.
