Firefighters had to wear breathing masks as they tackled a blaze in the kitchen of a property in Sheerness.
Three engines were called to the home in Clyde Street after the alarm was raised at around 5.35pm.
It took more than two hours to bring the fire under control and crews remained at the scene until 7.52pm.
There are no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is thought to be accidental.
A fire service spokesman said: "Crews used two high-pressure hose reel jets to extinguish the flames, alongside a positive pressure ventilation fan which was used to drive smoke and fumes from the building."
Police also attended, along with an electrical safety engineer from UK Power Networks, a gas safety engineer, and members of the KFRS Volunteer Response Team.
