A broken down van saw the Island-bound carriageway of the Sheppey Crossing closed this morning.

Police were called at 8.07am after reports a white van had come to a standstill on the brow of the bridge.

Motorists were diverted over the nearby Kingsferry Bridge and there was temporary congestion on the A249.

Police say the mainland-bound carriageway remained open. It was declared fully open at around 11am.
