A youngster raised hundreds of pounds for charity after her dad fell ill.
Greg Howell was taken to hospital with abdominal pain back in March which turned out to be a kidney stone.
But after having a scan, he was told by doctors there was a growth on his kidney that has a 90 per cent chance of being cancerous.
He won’t find out until a scan in September but says the worse case scenario will be that he loses the organ.
The news shocked the family, of Sea View Gardens, Warden, and Isle of Sheppey Academy pupil Lucy decided to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
She organised two boot fairs and, with teachers and friends donating, managed to raise £360.
The 13-year-old presented the money to Macmillan representatives at the academy’s east site on Monday.
Dad-of-four Mr Howell had already had a tough time of it, he suffered a respiratory arrest after his kidney stone operation as he had a reaction to morphine.
The 45-year-old said: “It shook my world a little bit because I had been feeling unwell and they found this by chance.
“It’s affected the kids but they have all been really good and my wife Joanne has been exceptional.
“It upset Lucy but she took it upon herself to do something for Macmillan. I’m very proud of her.”
