Dock worker trapped in machinery

HEALTH and safety officials are investigating an incident at Sheerness Docks this afternoon in which a young man became trapped by machinery.

The man, in his 20s and from Sheerness, is believed to have suffered abdominal injuries

in the accident at the docks’ fruit section. He was taken to Maidstone Hospital by Kent Air Ambulance.

A Kent police spokeswoman said: “The man suffered serious injuries but they were not believed to be life-threatening.”

The man was freed before two fire engines from Sittingbourne and Sheppey respectively arrived at the incident and the crews were stood down.
