A dog died and a person was injured in a high street flat fire.
Early today four fire engines went to a property above Capelli Salon in Sheerness.
Pictures show the building's windows blown out and smoke damage caused by the blaze.
The shop next to the building, Angels Hairdressing, was unscathed.
Owner Angela Croall said: "When we came into work this morning we were shocked to see the damage.
"Luckily it didn't spread onto our property as we also own the above flat next to the building which was on fire."
A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service confirmed crews were called at 1.36am.
They said: "Four fire engines attended and crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames using hose reel jets and main jets.
"Sadly, a dog died and one person was passed into the care of SECAmb paramedics."
Members of the service's volunteer response team were also at the scene to provide support to affected residents.
Angela said that it had been speculated the fire was caused by an electric scooter charger.
However, although Kent Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the blaze is believed to have been started accidentally the exact cause is still being investigated.
