Motorists had to avoid a Christmas tree lying in the middle of a dual carriageway just before the Sheppey Crossing this morning.

The festive feature was causing a hazard to cars leaving the Island with some drivers reporting near misses.

Police were called at 8.52am. The road was closed for a short time so officers could remove the tree.

It is not known how it came to be in the road.
