A drug dealer has been jailed after he was stopped by police on patrol.
Shakir Mohamed, 21, was jailed for three years and nine months on Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to possession of crack cocaine with intent to supply, possession of heroin with intent to supply and failing to surrender to police bail.
The judge, at Maidstone Crown Court, heard how Mohamed, of Streatham, south London, had been driving in Sheerness at around 6.45pm on July 17 last year when he was seen by officers on a routine patrol.
Officers requested Mohamed to stop the vehicle in Ferry Road, Iwade, because it was suspected to have been used in the supply of drugs.
They searched Mohamed, along with two others, and he was found to be in possession of a small amount of herbal cannabis, two mobile phones and a large quantity of cash.
There were no items found on the two passengers.
Mohamed was taken to Medway Police Station where he was further searched and officers found he was concealing a package, which contained smaller packages of crack cocaine and heroin.
Further investigation found that text messages contained on one of the recovered mobile phones were found to allude to drug dealing. Mohamed was later charged with the drug offences.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Rob Hemsley said: "Our investigation showed that Mohamed had a clear intention of selling and supplying drugs to vulnerable people in order to profit financially.
"The use of illegal drugs can destroy lives of those using as well as their families, which is why we work hard to disrupt and prevent the supply of drugs in Medway and Kent.
"I hope Mohamed’s sentencing serves as a reminder to the consequences of this criminal behaviour."
